13 Jan 1893 : Swamiji arrived in Madras... stayed in the house of Sri
Manmatha Babu.. Sri Subrahmanya Iyer named him Pahalwan Swami (an Athlet
Monk)....Many young men got attracted to Swamiji in whom they found
that he had renounced all worldly ties and freed himself from all
bondages had but one love, his country and one sorrow, her downfall. He
spoke with deep pathos and shed tears when he dwelt on the miserable
economic condition of the masses, their ignorance, superstitions and the
tyranny of the upper classes.
