12th January in Swami Vivekananda Life

12 January:

12 Jan 1863 : Vireshwar - Narendranath was born to Bhuvaneshwari - Vishwanath Datta in Kolkata

12 Jan 1895 : Swamiji write to Alasinga Perumal from U.S. : An organisation that will teach the Hindus mutual help and appreciation is absolutely necessary....What I now want is a band of fiery missionaries. We must have a College in Madras to teach comparative religions, Sanskrit, the different schools of Vedanta, and some European languages; we must have a press, and papers printed in English and in the vernaculars. When this is done, then I shall know that you have accomplished something.....

12 Jan 1896 : Lecture on the world mission of Swamiji's life : " The Ideal of a Universal Religion" at 3:30 pm at Hardman Hall, 19th St and 5th Ave.NY - Every great & recognised religion has 3 parts - Philosophy, Mythology, Rituals ...Religion is realisation; not talk, nor doctrine, nor theories, however beautiful they may be. It is being and becoming, not hearing or acknowledging; it is the whole soul becoming changed into what it believes. That is religion.
