SWAMIJI'S STATUE ON ROCK AT LAST
Coimbatore, Feb. 5 - The Madras Chief Minister, Mr. Bhaktavatsalam, told newsmen here today that the State Government would agree to the installation of Swami Vivekananda's statue on the Vivekananda Rock in Kanyakumari but it should be very small and enclosed in a shrine, says P.T.I.
A commemorative tablet on Swami Vivekananda's visit was put on the rock by the Vivekananda Centenary Celebration Committee in January last. It was found destroyed in May. Since then the rock had been declared a prohibited area.
Mr. Bhaktavatsalam said the shrine could have accommodation for a few persons to meditate, but it should on no account be exposed to any risk or damage by miscreants.
The Chief Minister mentioned that Mr. M.S. Aney, M.P., had submitted a memorandum signed by 300 Members of Parliament urging the Madras Government to allow installation of a statue of Swami Vivekananda on the rock.
