Annapurna

Yogin-ma reminisced about how Holy Mother cared for the devotees: "One day Holy Mother was preparing betel rolls in the nahabat, and I was watching her. She prepared some rolls with cardamom and other spices, and other rolls with only lime and betel nut. I asked: 'Mother, will you not add cardamom and spices to all of them? For whom are the good spicy ones and for whom are the ordinary ones?"

She replied: "Yogin, the good ones are for the devotees. I have to make them my own by taking special care of them. These ordinary ones are for the Master, as he is already my own."

Cooking consumed a great deal of Holy Mother's time and energy. Now and then she received help from a maidservant. During the early days in Dakshineswar, she cooked for only a few people: the Master, his mother, and occasionally some relatives and guests. But from 1880 onward the number of the Master's devotees increased. On the occasion of the Master's birthday, she cooked for as many as 50 or 60 people.
