25th Sutra of the Kaivalya Pāda is

विशेषदर्शिन आत्मभावभावनाविनिवृत्तिः ॥ ४.२५॥

Viśeṣa-darśina ātma-bhāva-bhāvanā-vinivṛttiḥ.

Ātma-bhāva-bhāvanā it is, Ātma-bhāva-bhāvanā is an important word in this particular sutra. Viśeṣa is special, Darśina is seeing, Viśeṣa-darśina seeing in a special way, special view, special way of seeing, then ātma-bhāva belonging to oneself, belongs to me. Ātma-bhāva, ātma is belonging to oneself, bhāva is the sense, Ātma-bhāva belongingness, bhāvanā feeling, feeling of belongingness, feeling of it belongs to me, feeling of that it is mine Ātma-bhāva-bhāvanā. Vinivṛttiḥ - Vi is viśeṣaḥ, particular, nivṛttiḥ is a cessation, Citta-vṛtti-nivṛttiḥ it is, so vinivṛttiḥ it is, Vinivṛtti is cessation, Vinivṛtti is special, Viśeṣa or total cessation. So the total cessation or total removal of the feeling of oneness - Ātma-bhāva-bhāvanā is removed by viśeṣa-darśina, by a special way, by a special way of seeing Ātma-bhāva-bhāvanā is removed, is lost, nivṛttiḥ by a special way of seeing. What is this special way of seeing? The special way of seeing is the understanding that Puruṣa is not citta, Citta is not the puruṣa and there is no identity between them that the feeling, that the bhāvanā that it is same, it is one and there is no difference which is avidyā that bhāvanā has to be lost, this they are not same, they are different is the special way of seeing, Viśeṣa-darśina it is. And how this viśeṣa-darśina comes? By viveka and the vairāgya it is. We shall see that in further sutras. So viśeṣa-darśina is the seeing, understanding, an outlook, a sense of feeling that the all illuminating puruṣa is different from the citta and ātma-bhāva-bhāvanā is the crux of the sutra, is the center of the sutra which needs to be understood that we keep on identifying Ātma-bhāva and that feeling of identification Ātma-bhāva-bhāvanā it is, is so deep and intense that we identify with this body, we identify with the parts of this our body, my legs, my hand, my head, my eyes, my nose, my mouth, my clothes, mine, mine, mine this ātma-bhāvanā comes and not only that my mind, my thoughts, my intelligence, my buddhi, my emotions, all that is not what I am I keep on identifying as myself, this is ātma-bhāva. And this feeling of ātma-bhāva-bhāvanā will go away, Vinivṛtti by a special view, Viśeṣa-darśana it is or people who have viśeṣa-darśanam will be free from ātma-bhāva-bhāvanā it is. That feeling of ownness, It is not oneness, it is ownness. Ownness is different and oneness is different. This ātma-bhāva-bhāvanā, if you go little deeper, the real ātma-bhāva-bhāvanā that is I am the puruṣaḥ, I am the illuminator, I am the unchanging, aprinamitvam, akartvutam that real ātma-bhāva-bhāvanā comes by a viśeṣa, a special view by removing. The other meaning of the ātma-bhāva-bhāvanā of identification with everything. If ownness is removed oneness comes, If ownness goes oneness comes. Ātma-bhāva-bhāvanā goes and the real ātma-bhāva, Ātma-bhāva-bhāvanā comes. There is no confusion in this but only a clarity is needed that is the special seeing, Viśeṣa, that is the viśeṣa-darśana, a sādhaka, a yogī, a yoga-sādhaka, Yoga-abhyāsī, practitioner of Yoga must develop this Viśeṣa-darśana.

The two dimensions of viśeṣa-darśana is the two dimensions of the Ātma Bhāva Bhāvanā it is. I am, I amness,  owning, ownness of everything, which is not but the real ātma-bhāva-bhāvanā what I am, what is my real nature, I am that, that ātma-bhāva-bhāvanā, that ātma-bhāva-bhāvanā comes or we get established in that by Vinivṛddhi of the Ātma-bhāva-bhāvanā of the identification with the world. And this is the special darśana, Viśeṣa-darśana. Maharṣi Patañjali in this particular sutra almost summarizes entire Vedānta Sūtras, Vedānta in this particular dimension, entire Jñāna Yoga is put in this particular sutra on both the ways Viśeṣa-darśana Ātma-bhāva-bhāvanā Vinivṛddhi.

A wonderful sutra for our sādhana from which we should dissociate to which we should identify, from which we should dissociate, to which we should associate. That is what this particular sutra emphasizes and the citta when it transcends the asmitā and attains the complete state of Kaivalyam and let us see further sutras.

Om śāntiḥ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ.
