Each soul in potentially Divine!

वीरेश्वराय विद्महे विवेकानन्दाय धीमहि । तन्नो वीर: प्रचोदयात् ।
This is one of the prophetic utterance of Swamiji which explains Truth in a different manner. He has written it in the commentary on the Patanjal Yog Sutras.

According to Hindu Dharma, God alone exists. Everything is pervaded with God alone. Sarvata: panipadam tat…. (Gita 13.13) tells this fact. Sutre manigana eva ….(Gita 7.7) also states the same fact that everything in the world is garlanded in the thread called God. And, therefore, in each and everything there exists God. Understanding this fact is knowing potential divinity of it.

Is it applicable to only living souls? Not necessarily. It applies to everything. When we read the Vibhuti Yog (chapter 10 of Gita), we find God has taken various forms and in all those He exists. The Isavasyopanisad also states ‘Isavasyamidam sarvam yat kinch jagatyam jagat…’ These all aspects takes us to the Divinity in everything.

But to understand it is all important. This requires a special vision –DRISHTI which each one need to develop. If we find usefulness of each and everything, perhaps understanding this Divinity would be possible. We all remember the Holy Mother telling her disciple to keep the broom properly and not to throw it after work is done. It is because she sees the divinity in it of cleaning the place. If this is case with broom, can we not find some special attribute, value in each person? Surely. It is possible. When we shall start seeing goodness in each and everything, the very concept will undergo total change. That is how Mananeeya Eknathji said : There are only two categories of people (i) those who are convinced and converted and (ii) those who are in the process of conviction and conversion to be the karyakartas of the organisation. What a wonderful way of looking at the world!

But it should not be restricted to usefulness alone as everything that God has created and is itself God has some purpose which may be beyond our understanding. And, hence, if we make ourselves capable to go to the depth of everything, perhaps, knowing its divinity would be possible.

Many a time we feel helpless because we are not aware of our own divinity. Vedanta boldly proclaims that every living being is essentially divine. The soul of everyone is pure, good, beautiful and blissful. It is infinite and eternal. It is free from all bondage, limitation and sorrow. It is one with God, the Supreme Spirit.

In this year of 150th Birth Anniversary of Swamiji, can we change our outlook? Shall we see goodness and Godness in everything? Do our Swadharma - this is truth, the truth of truths.

With this positive outlook, we are bound to find Divinity in everything and the purpose of human life – to be Divine – is certain to attain.
