The great decision was that of Sri Sarada Devi, the Holy Mother, the decision to live the life of a nun, which was given out when she was asked by Sri Ramakrishna at Dakshineswar in 1872, as to her plan of life. She was eighteen then. 'Do you want to drag me down into Maya? I have already given my heart and soul to the Divine Mother. But I don't question your just claims on me,' said Sri Ramakrishna to the Holy Mother once, during her first visit to Dakshineswar, a meeting that occurred after a long period of separation. 'Why should I do that?' came the unhesitating reply, 'I have come only to help you in the path of religious life. It will be enough if I am permitted to serve you in my humble way.' This was a reply which one of immaculate purity of mind alone could spontaneously give to her adored husband. How the Holy Mother served the Master till the moment of his passing away and helped him to carry on his mission, while she looked so solicitously after his body and how also she fulfilled the mission of Sri Ramakrishna till the last day of her own life, are facts known to all. It is true that she is still serving Sri Ramakrishna and his mission though in a subt1e way. Suffice it to say that this act of decision, so significant to mankind, is unparalleled in the history of the world.
