28th February in Swami Vivekananda Life

28 February :

28 Feb 1894 : Ada Records - Divinity of Man - "I am a spirit and not matter. The religion of the West hopes to again live with their body. Ours teaches there can not be such a state. We say freedom of the soul instead of salvation."

28 Feb 1895 : Lecture: "The Vedanta philosophy: Soul" in NYC.

Swami Vivekananda writes to Sri E T Sturdy - The stenographer, who is an Englishman named Goodwin, has become so interested in the work that I have now made him a Brahmachârin, and he is going round with me, and we shall come over together to England. He will be very helpful as he has been always.
28 Feb 1897 : Calcutta. Swami Vivekananda was given a public reception. Raja Benoy Krishna Deb presided, and five thousand people attended the meeting. The Swami asked the people to go back to the philosophy of the Upanishads. Here he made his famous tribute to Ramakrishna, 'my teacher, my master, my hero, my ideal, my God in life.' 'If there has been anything achieved by me, by thoughts or words or deeds, if from my lips has ever fallen one word that has ever helped anyone in the world, I lay no claim to it; it was his. But if there have been curses falling from my lips, if there has been hatred coming out of me, it is all mine, and not his. All that has been weak has been mine; all that has been life-giving, strengthening, pure, and holy has been his inspiration, his words, and he himself. Yes, my friends, the world has yet to know that man.'
