Strict with oneself, Liberal with others

|| योग: कर्मसु कौशलम् ||

Mananeeya Eknathji wrote letter to Prof K Sheshadri who was given the responsibility of Yuva Bharati. His letter amply says how he used to look into the difficulties that the workers faced. He took all the blame to himself. He writes :

I am distressed to find that you are awfully hurt over the irregular procedure followed by the office, and especially myself, in conveying you my mind regarding editorial. If anybody is to be blamed in the episode, it is none else but myself. But, I was put in a worst dilemma when I received our editorial while I was leaving for the airport for my journey in the interior of Arunachal Pradesh. In the circumstances there was no scope either for amending the editorial myself or for addressing a detailed letter to you. As we are primarily wedded to a Cause and only secondarily to prescribed formalities, I chose to resort to an unusual procedure rather than allow the cause to suffer. When I meet you on 28th March, I shall certainly seek your counsel, for my future guidance, in respect of the proper procedure that should and could have been adopted by me in the circumstances I was caught.

And elephants got installed

|| योग: कर्मसु कौशलम् ||

Mananeeya Eknathji says that the Karyakarta should not be casual about the execution and creeping of disorder but should have capacity to detect the disorder and restore the order.
Tolerance and liberality are noble virtues no doubt; but this tolerance can be for the person who committed the mistake and not for the mistake. The mistake must immediately be dealt with to the advantage of the organization; we have two colloquialisms, which are very harmful as they lead to disharmony and loss of efficiency in the organization. We say "by and large" the programme went all right and "broadly speaking" the programme was a great success. Such type of tolerance and liberality should not be tolerated as it leads to inefficiency in the system. The order, if disrupted due to some cause, must be restored.

In EKNATHJI we read :
Eknathji was clear and firm that the construction should be completed before 1970. The minute timetable of when, how much portions of the Memorial and what work associated with it should be completed was prepared. Eknathji had asked for the weekly progress reports from Kanyakumari and he used to ensure that they match with the timetable drawn. Whenever Eknathji came from his tours to Kanyakumari, he would go straight to the Rock. There was no question of travel fatigue. After reaching there, he would see whether the progress was as per schedule or not. Only thereafter, he would proceed to his residence for wash and refreshment.
Once when Eknathji came from tour, Sri Varnekarji was also with him. As usual, Eknathji went straight to the Rock. The flooring was to be completed in the Sabha Mandapam and the two stone elephants were to be installed according to the schedule. As he reached the Rock, some workers tried to suggest that the function proposed on the next day in Sabha Mandapam, could be held on the shore. Eknathji did not reply; he went straight ahead, and reached the front of Sabha Mandapam. He demanded, 'Where are the elephants?' Sri Varnekarji was puzzled, and wondered why the elephants were needed for the next day's function. The workers started stammering to explain why no elephants were there. Eknathji said, "Go and call all the workers; the elephants should be installed today".
It was already evening. Eknathji climbed the steps of the Sabha Mandapam and as he entered, he saw that the flooring was incomplete; then, he realised why the workers wanted to arrange the programme on the shore. Again he declared, "Call all the workers; fix the lights properly for doing the work in the night. The flooring work will start now. It should be over before morning. The function would be held here only. Till the flooring is completed I shall also sit here". The work started in right earnest. Eknathji was requested to go and take rest and the workers promised to complete the work before morning. However, Eknathji refused to go. He was aware of the strain of working in the night, so he too denied rest for himself. He sat through the night.
"Why do you insist so much? In construction work it does happen often that the work drags", asked Sri Varnekarji. "Dada, if a delay of one day is tolerated, then slowly it would expand into months and years and this memorial would not come even in my life time. After this is completed, a bigger and living memorial to Swami Vivekananda is to be developed. Therefore, we cannot brook, for the sake of the nation, the delay of even one day", Eknathji replied.

SYBOM : VRM COnstruction

|| योग: कर्मसु कौशलम् ||

Mananeeya Eknathji had developed such a wonderful SYBOM that as the work of construction of Vivekanada Rock Memorial should get completed within a particular period got finalised in his mind. Now though he was moving all around the country for collection of funds, his mind was fixed on the construction of Vivekananda Mandapam. His letter to Sri Ramachandra Rao Buldeo is a classic one. Here it is for your ready reference :

28-01-1968

Dear Shri Ramachandra Rao Buldeo,

Received your letter dated 12th, and 18th etc. together with enclosures, including the work-report of the week, ending on 22nd January.

From the report it is evident that the work is not yet catching speed. Though it is true that a whole sea of impediments is to be faced by us there, we have to overcome the difficulties by our resourcefulness as well as foresight and intelligent adjustments.

As I expressed before all our departmental heads in my last visit, it is imperative for us to so organize our entire constructional activity that the memorial construction work, by no means, lingers further than the middle of 1969. I want you also to stress this point again and again, and with emphasis, before the in-charges of our various vital departments.

My whole attention remains riveted upon the masonry work of the Vivekananda Mandapam in progress, on the Rock, even as I move from place to place. Had it been feasible, I would have very much liked to know, before going to bed every night, the number of stones that have gone into the walls of the Vivekananda Mandapam. Being unable to keep trace of the daily work from my moving camps, I eagerly await your weekly reports, to know the number of stones or the cubic feet area covered by the masonry work of the Mandapam during the week. But when I get only a vague description of the work done, I feel very much restless.

I, therefore, request you to always mention in your weekly report, both the number of stones used, and the cubic feet area of the masonry work covered by those stones, in that particular week, together with a similar account of the total masonry work of the Mandapam to date. Please show this letter, with its Tamil rendering, to the Sthapathi and convey to him my anxiety.

Please convey my Saprema Namaskars to all co-workers.

Brotherly yours,

Eknath Ranade.

Daily Routine

|| योग: कर्मसु कौशलम् ||

Mananeeya Eknathji had said that a social worker's ears, eyes and mind must be fully equipped to mark any small disorder in social life and he should strive to put it in order.Even this aspect Eknathji used to look into the health, work of the karyakartas.

In EKNATHJI, it is written :
Mandakini - a Jeevanvrati karyakarta, who was posted in Arunachal Pradesh, started putting on weight. Everyone thought her health was improving but she was actually feeling weak and exhausted. When Eknathji went to North-East, all the Karyakartas there had come for a meeting. As soon as Eknathji saw her, he told her that she was looking very pale and asked her to get immediately her blood checked. After check-up, it was found that she was suffering from acute anaemia.

While going through the routine of the Karyakartas also, Eknathji was very keen on observance of some aspects which alone would mould a karyakarta to take up the work later. In his letters dated 17.02.1974, "I have before me the daily routine chart of the trainees from 31st January to 9th February. I find from the chart that you were absent from Pratahsmaran classes for four days and from Yogasana classes for five days apart from being late for a number of days in some periods.
The only inference one can draw from your irregularity is that you may be physically unsound and unfit for any rigorous work. However, I shall expect a reply from you at my Calcutta address given below..."

The main theme of my life is to take the message of Sanatana Dharma to every home and pave the way for launching, in a big way, the man-making programme preached and envisaged by great seers like Swami Vivekananda. - Mananeeya Eknathji

SYSTEM : Vivekananda Kendra News

"There is Order – System in the universe. We find that everything in this universe is a systematic organization. The solar system with its enormous expanse is still a system and there is not the slightest deviation from the order which has been laid down. Our sentences in the normal talk have a system. We think of music and we find that the seven notes, even though different from one another in their pitch, create a melody if they are harmoniously tuned and arranged. A machine works efficiently because its system is in order; if it deviates, we say the machine is out of order. If our physical system works harmoniously, we enjoy ease and the pleasure; but if there is disorder, we get disease and it is the doctor who has to put the system into order again. Thus we learn that right from the largest solar system up to the smallest machine or plant or being, there is ORDER. There is SYSTEM everywhere in the universe and therefore it is a cosmos and not a chaos."

Double salute to the Indian Government.. :
Mother Nature has given another grim reminder that how fallible we humans are.  The earth quake in Nepal and some parts of India has not just claimed Human casualties, but it has also resulted in innumerable and unrepairable damages. Many precious Historical monuments which hitherto stood as testimony to the human development over ages got destroyed in a minute. Many families lost their members, which means the shattering of many hopes, dreams and aspirations. It's a time for humanity to stand together to wither this challenge nature has thrown before us. India has responded to this challenge immediately as we see the reports of relief materials and rescue teams being sent to Nepal. .  Read More : Subscribe Online
