One Life One Mission : {part 1}

|| योग: कर्मसु कौशलम् ||

Vivekananda Kendra is celebrating the Birth Centenary year of Mananeeya Eknathji Ranade, the Founder of Vivekananda Rock Memorial and Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari. The celebrations from 19 November 2014 to 19 November 2015 would be with the motto "One Life One Mission" - a chosen maxim of Eknathji. He was a great person in whose dictionary there was no word as 'impossible'. He used say that life should be like an arrow hitting the target. How? A new series of articles for one year titled "One Life One Mission" is being started for the very purpose.

Win - Win Achievement

Who does not want to achieve what one desires? If desires would have been adequate in achieving what one wants, then there would have been only achievers all around. But evidently desires are inadequate. To achieve what one desires or what one is supposed to do, something more is required. Will power is required and that will power is manifested in various dimensions. When one wants to achieve something, hurdles come on the way, opponents emerge and then the fight begins. In such cases someone has to lose and someone has to win and achieve what he or she wanted to achieve. But there is no charm in such a victory. When you win, if everything else (whether man or nature or situation) around you also win then it is a win- win achievement and such win-win achievement gives the sense of fulfilment. Eknathji Ranade's great work illustrates this win-win achievement best.

The occasion was the Birth Centenary of Swami Vivekananda. The place was mid-sea rock at Kanyakumari where Swami Vivekananda had meditated and had taken the momentous decision of his life. The mission was to commemorate the discovery of the life mission by Swami Vivekananda on that historical Rock by erecting either a statue or installing a commemorative plaque on the Rock. But there was opposition at various levels for the memorial. A section of local Christian community said they would not allow the memorial at that Rock; The Chief Minister of the state said that in his life time he would not allow any memorial there though he agreed that it was Vivekananda Rock; Union Cultural minister said that the memorial would spoil the natural beauty.

A Mission Impossible? A communal flash point? Either one or other have to be dissatisfied? It could have been so. But there came a person, Sri Eknathji Ranade and gradually the opposition melted, all came together and proudly the national monument took grand shape. Shri. S.B. Chavan, Minister of Planning & Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission had said, "But for his (Eknathji's) farsightedness, devotional involvement in the task set forth and missionary drive and zeal with which he had taken upon himself, the monumental work of Vivekananda Rock Foundation would not have stood as Message of world brotherhood (Vishvabandhutva) to the coming generation".

How did Eknathji achieve this ?
